Coconut contains medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs) which are digested and used differently from other forms of fats. MCTs are absorbed in your small intestine and used mainly as energy and have been shown to promote fat loss as compared to animal based saturated fats.
Coconuts are high in fiber and many vitamins and minerals such as calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, manganese, niacin, phosphorus, potassium, riboflavin, selenium, thiamin, and zinc.
Dark chocolate has many healthy benefits such as high amounts of fiber, iron, magnesium, copper, manganese, potassium, phosphorous, zinc, and selenium. Dark chocolate also contains theobromine which is a vasodilator that increases blood flow that can improve heart health and exercise performance.
A study has shown that dark chocolate had more antioxidant activity, polyphenols, and flavanols than any other fruits tested.
A minimum erythemal dose (MED) is the minimum amount of UVB rays required to cause redness in the skin 24 hours after exposure. In one study of 30 people, the MED more than doubled after consuming dark chocolate high in flavanols for 12 weeks (NCBI Source). While this doesn't mean its time to throw away your sunscreen it does help with piece of mind and knowing that you may be protecting your skin against the harmful rays of the sun. Flavanols may also improve blood flow to your skin and increase hydration and skin density (NCBI Source 2).
